“Monarchs in our Hometown”

05/4/2015 2:09:00 PM

Phil S. Dixon, nationally known author and baseball historian will be at the Wellsville City Library this Saturday, May 9th at 10:00 a.m.

Phil is on a national tour, visiting 90 cities where the Kansas City Monarchs once played games. It is a tribute tour; a goodwill visit done with sports history.

The Kansas City Monarchs came here and played against the Wellsville Athletics on September 19, 1924. It was the same year that the Monarchs won a World Series title and were World Champions.

“It has been more than twenty years since a team as good as the Monarchs has played in Wellsville-when the old Kansas City Blues played the Nicelys.  Vint Trusheim and Bill Cramer made up the battery that day,” wrote a local newspaper.

Come out and enjoy a 30-45 minute presentation with historic photographs, entertaining stories, and colorful baseball poetry.

Dixon will also have copies of his books for sale.

For more information call the library @ 785-883-2870.
